{"id":12140,"date":"2022-05-20T14:23:12","date_gmt":"2022-05-20T14:23:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ettelbruck.webdev.lu\/patton\/patton-a-luxembourg\/"},"modified":"2022-09-06T09:17:59","modified_gmt":"2022-09-06T09:17:59","slug":"patton-a-luxembourg","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/patton.lu\/en\/decouvrir\/le-general-patton\/patton-a-luxembourg\/","title":{"rendered":"Patton in Luxemburg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<h2>GENERAL PATTON IN LUXEMBOURG<\/h2>\n<p>In late 1919, Colonel Patton visits the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>According to a letter he wrote to his father at the time, he describes Luxembourg as a very beautiful country.<\/p>\n<p>During this visit he meets Major Heckmann, then commander of the company of volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly before his visit, the company had mutinied, and the unit was dissolved.<\/p>\n<p>Patton finishes his letter by remarking:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the first country in the world without an army. A terrible example of how not to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On 21 December 1944, General Patton establishes his headquarters in the Pescatore Foundation in Luxembourg City.
